Planning is an important aspect of creating business forms. It is important to plan what exactly the forms will be used for. There is certain criteria that should be considered. How important is the form? What specifics need to be addressed in the form? A business legal form is usually legally binding so being sure that the form fits all the local rules and requirements is also very important. Coming up with several prototypes is typical when planning a business form. Generating the forms than reviewing the finished product is also a common practice. Ideas during the planning stage can come from different sources. There are a lot of online websites that will provide a sample of various forms, it violates copyright laws to use the form verbatim in most cases, but looking at the form and using the same format is not a violation, and there may be some good ideas that will inspire the creation of the form.
Use appropriate response mechanisms. Paper forms have the disadvantage that users can miss, or simply disregard, an instruction. For example, 'only tick/check one box' from a list of 15 or 20 options. In this context interactive forms can be programmed so that the user can only tick/check one (known as a 'radio button' as distinct from 'check-boxes'), or presented with the options in a drop-down menu from which the user can only select one. When designing forms make sure the response mechanism is appropriate to each question.
Business forms play an important role in day to day business. Business forms are usually created by the business owners. There are some forms that are created by lawyers that are used by a business. An indemnity agreement is a legal form that many businesses use to protect their business from liability. Typically businesses will take a generic form and customize it to fit a particular business application. Usually there is someone designated in an administrative position that will be responsible for the creation of and tracking of business forms. If there is a legal department attached to the business typically they will be responsible for creating all the forms that the business uses not just the legal forms but every form.
Let people know what happens next. Having gone to all the trouble of filling in your form, the least you can do is provide users with information about what happens next. Customer communication is key, and since you've made the form so easy to fill in and return, processing it could also be a breeze!
